When Jack Frost Interrupts Your Workout Plan

This week has been a rollercoaster. Picture this: I’m all set to start a new full-body 5-day split workout program, pumped to crush my goals—and then Jack Frost decides to show up uninvited. I was excited to hit the ground running and challenge myself. But Jack Frost had other plans.

On Monday—the day I was supposed to kick off my new routine—we got hit with 7 inches of snow. Needless to say, the gym was closed. Normally, this wouldn’t be a big deal. I could easily push the start to Tuesday and go Tuesday through Saturday instead of Monday through Friday. Simple, right? But the weather chaos wasn’t done yet.

Tuesday morning, I was ready to get back on track, determined to make up for lost time. But then, I found out the gym wouldn’t open until 7 a.m. You can imagine my frustration.  I usually work out between 4:45 a.m. and 5 a.m., and by 7 a.m., I’m already getting ready for work. That meant another missed session. By then, I figured it wasn’t worth starting the new program midweek. Instead, I decided to postpone until next Monday to give myself a clean slate.

In the meantime, I’ve been making do with cardio and ab workouts. It’s better than nothing, sure, but it’s like eating a salad when you’re craving a steak—it just doesn’t hit the same. Lifting has a way of lifting my mood—literally and figuratively. The lack of that post-lift buzz has left me feeling a little off all week.

Next week adds a new challenge to the mix: I’ll be staying at the National Harbor on Tuesday and Wednesday for Colossal’s Sales Kick Off. I’m crossing my fingers that the Gaylord has a well-equipped gym. I’d love to keep up with my standard exercises because this first week is make-or-break—it sets the tone and determines the weights for the rest of the program. I’d like to stick to my standard exercises and modifying my lifts now could throw off the whole program, so fingers crossed for a solid setup there.

But I’m determined not to dwell on it. Snow and trips happen, and sometimes life throws curveballs that disrupt even the best-laid plans. Instead of letting frustration win, I’m trying to stay positive and channel my energy into anticipation. It’s not easy, but the thought of getting back to my routine keeps me motivated. Monday can’t come soon enough! I’m ready to get back under the barbell, reset my focus, and crush this new program.

Here’s to hoping the snow stays away and to embracing the grind once again!

What about you? Have you ever had to adapt your workout plans due to unexpected challenges? Let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear how you stay motivated when life throws you a curveball.
